Pinealon

Mostly animal research

Also known as: Glu-Asp-Arg

Pinealon is the tripeptide Glu-Asp-Arg, studied mainly by one research tradition in cell and animal models of oxidative stress, brain injury, and aging.

What it is

Pinealon is a synthetic three-amino-acid peptide, often abbreviated EDR. It comes from the Khavinson short-peptide bioregulator research program and is marketed around cognition and brain aging.

Published evidence is concentrated in a small network of laboratories. There is no FDA-approved Pinealon medicine and no robust body of independently replicated clinical trials.

What people research it for

Cell-survival findings

Preclinical / theorized

Cultured-cell work reports lower oxidative damage and altered survival signaling.

Animal neuroprotection

Animal studies

Rat and mouse models report effects after prenatal stress, ischemia, or Alzheimer-like injury.

Very limited clinical evidence

Early human data

A small Russian-language geriatric study reported outcomes in complex patients, with limited methods available.

No proven nootropic effect

Preclinical / theorized

Healthy-human memory and attention benefits have not been established.

How it works

Cell studies report changes in oxidative-stress responses, apoptosis, and expression of proteins involved in neuronal function. Some papers propose direct interactions with DNA or chromatin that alter gene expression.

These are laboratory hypotheses. A short peptide changing a marker in cultured cells does not show that an injected or oral retail product reaches the human brain or improves cognition.

What the research actually shows

A cell study reported that Pinealon reduced free-radical levels and altered proliferative and survival pathways under oxidative stress. The work was mechanistic and did not test clinical cognition.

Old-rat experiments administered short peptides before carotid artery occlusion and measured behavior and caspase-3 activity. Such injury models are useful for hypotheses but do not establish prevention or treatment in people.

A prenatal hyperhomocysteinemia rat model reported behavioral and developmental effects in offspring. Translation to human pregnancy or routine brain health is unknown.

A mouse Alzheimer-like model studied EDR alongside other tripeptides and reported changes in neurodegeneration-related markers. It was preclinical and did not demonstrate reversal of human Alzheimer disease.

A Russian-language geriatric report included patients with multiple chronic conditions and organic brain syndrome. Its abstract recommends geroprotective use, but sample detail, controls, blinding, and independent replication are inadequate for a confident conclusion.

A 2021 review proposes gene-expression mechanisms based heavily on the same research lineage. Independent clinical validation remains the main missing step.

Handling & storage

Storage at a glance

Vendor consensus
Lyophilized
-20°C
Keep sealed, dry, and protected from light and moisture.
Reconstituted
2 to 8°C
Use the product-specific laboratory instructions. No independently validated universal in-use period was found.
Light
Protect from light and moisture.
Room temperature
Brief shipping exposure is not a validated shelf life. Avoid sustained heat.
Reconstitution
product-specific laboratory solvent
A research vial must not be assumed sterile or suitable for injection.

Basis: Vendor consensus. Sources: American Peptides Pinealon technical page, Nextday Peptides Pinealon technical page

Two retail technical pages agree on dry, dark frozen storage near -20°C for lyophilized Pinealon. Their refrigerated after-preparation windows are vendor claims rather than published compound-specific stability data.

Keep the material sealed and follow the exact product instructions. No evidence supports assuming that a retail vial is sterile or equivalent to material used in published experiments.

Safety & cautions

Human adverse-event data are too sparse to define risks. Unknowns include neurological effects, immune reactions, pregnancy, cancer, drug interactions, and repeated exposure.

Online products may differ in sequence, counter-ion, fill amount, sterility, and endotoxin. The absence of reported harms in small or poorly described studies is not proof of safety.

Frequently asked questions

What is Pinealon?

Pinealon is the synthetic tripeptide Glu-Asp-Arg, also called EDR.

Is Pinealon FDA approved?

No.

Does Pinealon improve memory?

Animal and cell findings are interesting, but controlled human evidence for memory improvement is not established.

Has Pinealon been studied in people?

A small body of Russian-language clinical literature exists, but methods and independent replication are limited.

Is Pinealon the same as Epitalon?

No. Pinealon is EDR and is associated with brain-focused research. Epitalon is a different four-amino-acid peptide.

How should laboratory Pinealon be stored?

Checked suppliers agree on sealed, dry, light-protected frozen storage near -20°C. No universal after-preparation lifetime is validated.
